President’s Message
Members and Friends of the Society:
All
Howdy. Hope everyone is having a great summer! As we approach our 19 June meeting, Julie again as put together a great agenda.
Steve and Paul Beam will be joining us for the June 19th Bourbon Society meeting. They are the founders of the Limestone Branch Distillery. They come from a long line of distillers. Their great-great grandfather J. W. Dant began distilling in 1836. The operation was eventually taken over by his son W. W. Dant. W. W. was also a partner in the Smith & Smith Distillery in Loretto, KY. On their paternal side of the family, over in Nelson county, their great grandfather Minor Case Beam was busy producing Old Trump and T. J. Pottinger. Minor Case was the eldest son of Joseph M. Beam. Joseph's brothers were David & John of Jim Beam and Early Times fame.
Paul and Steve are currently producing two clear whiskies. T.J. Pottinger Sugershine at 100 pf and T.J. Pottinger Moonshine at 90 pf. Their cooked corn whiskey has won a Gold Medal and will be available for sampling at the meeting. Please join us in welcoming Paul and Steve (and their hooch) to the June 19th meeting of The Bourbon Society. Gayle will also be offering additional bottles for auction. Another great evening of bourbon will be had by all.
On another note, there are several new bourbons out on the market. First, you can now purchase Elijah Craig 20 year old bourbon locally. Second, the Four Roses 2012 Limited Edition is out but going fast. Third, E.H. Taylor Uncut/unfiltered barrel strength is also out but going fast. Third, Springfield Liquor Barn has a Barrel Strength Four Roses out for purchase, along with their own second barrel of Elijah Craig 12 year. Finally Heaven Hill has come out with their own barrel strength Elijah Craig 12 year and a new William HeavenHill bourbon. There are only 80 bottles of the later available and both can only be purchased at the distillery. All of these are very good based on what your taste bud enjoys.
Our Elmer T. Lee barrels were bottled last week. You will have the opportunity to purchase from two separate barrels, two different taste profiles. We will have any where from 120 to 180 bottles for purchase. Please get your orders into Chuck, as we hope to have these available at the next meeting.
Look forward to seeing you 19 June at the Pendennis club.
Take care
